Barcelona lift Mission Hills Cup by beating Mission Hills Invitation XI 4-0 at Hong Kong Stadium yesterday. Despite rainfall, the Spanish giants kept its aggressive strategy. Barcelona scored three goals in the 21st, 27th and 35th minutes by Xavi, Samuel Eto'o and Thierry Henry respectively. And this was also the first goal scored by new signing Henry in the Asian tour. Mexician talents Giovanni dos Santos, who came on for Ronaldinho in the 63rd minute, scored the only second-half goal in the 83rd minute. The hosts, formed by Kitchee and Happy Valley players, have several quality attacks but failed to score a goal. "Henry and Eto'o plays very well today. I've learnt so much from them." said MHI defender Cheung Kin-fung. Barca returned home soon after the match to prepare the upcoming season.

South China's duo joins Yokohama F. Marinos (5-Aug-2007) |
South China's Lai Man-fei and Chan Ka-chun has signed a one-year deal joining J-League giants Yokohama F. Marino as a part of the SCAA-Marinos exchange programme yesterday. Lai and Chan, are the most talents players among the Caroliner's youths, will be trained with the Marino's top team in the upcoming season. Marinos manager Hiroshi Hayano think that the duo were stability and solidity playing in a defensive role. They will be selected for the upcoming J-League competition if their abilities and performance satisfied the team. "It's a new experience for me and a great opportunity for me to go to Japan." said Lai. Meanwhile, South China's signing of former Japanese International striker Takayuki Suzuki from the Marinos will be announced within a week.

Portsmouth lift Barclays Cup

Portsmouth wins the Barclays Asia Trophy 2007 after beating Liverpool 4-2 in a penalty shootout at Hong Kong stadium overnight. After playing 90 minutes without scoring, the match immediately went to penalty kicks that saw Portsmouth's Matthew Taylor, Lomana Lua Lua, Hermann Hreidarsson and Nico Kranjcar all scored in, while Liverpool's Fernando Torres and Yossi Benayoun missed shots. Earlier, Fulham beat South China 4-1 to grab third place of the tournament. Flavio Barros scored the only goal for the Caroliners in the 56th minute.

Liverpool advanced to the Barclays Asia Trophy final after beating South China 3-1 at Hong Kong stadium overnight. The first goal was scored by John Riise in the 10th minute with a fury free kick. The visitors added the second after Xabi Alonso scored a penalty kick in the 28th minute. However, South China captain Li Haiqiang found the net by curving the ball from 40-yards into the top left corner in the 35th minute. In the second half, Liverpool extended its lead after Daniel Agger struck from a close range in the 74th minute. Earlier, Porthsmouth edged Fulham 1-0 with Zimbabwean striker Benjani Mwaruwari scoring the only goal of the match.

China-Hong Kong XI team beat FIFA World Stars 2-0 in the the 10th Anniversary Reunification Cup at Hong Kong stadium yesterday. In front of 40,000 attendance, the visitors were not fit enough for the game and Hong Kong's rising star Lo Kwan-yee helped the hosts to take control of the midfield. In the 41st minute, Zhao Xuri walloped the opener from 30 yards after veteran left-back Poon Yiu-cheuk dribbled through the heart of the visitors defence. Then, Shao Jiayi made it 2-0 in the second half after rifling in a left-footed shot from 35 yards. Earlier, Miroslav Klose and Hamit Altintop helped Bayern Munich came from behind to beat Brazilian champions Sao Paulo 2-1. [Results]
